Name: Dawn Summers
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
History or Personality: PERSONALITY: Dawn used to be a typical teenager, most of the time. She would be extremely outgoing and perky and just plain happy. Other times, she would be somewhat depressed and turned inward, though she began to learn that it's better to talk about her feelings more than letting them in.
In the past year, however, she grew more than even she thought possible. Becoming a fairly good fighter in her own right, and even a mildly skilled spell-caster, Dawn has learned that even though she's not one of the 'special' ones, one of the Slayers, there are other things more important. At one point, she believed (thanks to one of Willow's spells) that she was a Potential Slayer. When she learned the truth, she immediately handed the mantle over to the proper person, and stepped back into more of a guiding role.
Dawn has had-and still has-serious abandonment issues. In her eyes, almost everyone she's loved has left her; her dad, her mom (who died), her sister Buffy (who died, but came back), Giles, Tara, Willow, and Spike-many of whom also came back (eventually). While she is quick to trust and offer her help, she doesn't believe promises people make to her until they're followed through on.
She has learned that when the need is huge enough, individuals don't matter quite as much. She recently kicked her sister out of the house when it became clear that she was no longer the leader they needed, though she welcomed her back as well. She also participated in a huge battle, despite her sister's wishes for her to leave. All in all, Dawn can be very strong when she wants to be, even stronger than Buffy at times.
HISTORY: Physically, Dawn Summers is eighteen years old. She was born when her sister was five, in LA, where they lived with their parents until Dawn was eleven. At that time, Dawn's parents divorced after her dad ran off with his secretary, and she, her sister Buffy, and her mom Joyce moved to the nearby town of Sunnydale for, as her mom put it, a fresh start.
When Dawn was fourteen, she learned the truth. At that point, she was, in reality, only a few months old. She was in fact a mystical ball of energy known as 'The Key', which had been transformed by a group of monks into the form of a human girl, and placed with the Slayer, Buffy, so that she would be protected. Soon after the truth was revealed, Dawn was captured by the Hell God Glory, who then attempted to bleed her and open a doorway back into her own dimension. Buffy, however, sacrificed herself to close the gate, saving Dawn's life.
Dawn took Buffy's death hard, and began to steal things from various stores. When her sister returned, the kleptomania continued for a while as Buffy pulled further away from her. By the end of her freshman year, the kleptomania had been discovered and the two sisters had once again become close.
At the end of that same school year, Dawn's best friend Tara was shot and killed, causing Tara's girlfriend Willow (also one of Dawn's best friends) to go...well, insane. During the ensuing fight against the witch, Dawn was forced to come to grips with the fact that there existed someone who might actually be able to change her back into the mystical ball of energy she used to be. As Willow is defeated by another friend of hers, Dawn and Buffy face monsters of their own, leading Buffy to finally realize that Dawn is ready to learn how to fight - though she does demonstrate she's learned a lot from watching Buffy.
A few short months of brief lessons later, Buffy prepares Dawn for her toughest challenge yet - the newly rebuilt Sunnydale High, placed in the exact same spot as the old one, over the Hell Mouth. During her sophomore year at the high school, she learns how to stand up for herself and others, and how to back off when learning that she's not in line to be a Slayer. As she and her family and friends face the First, Dawn comes to the difficult conclusion that sometimes one must sacrifice a loved one for the good of the all, and is instrumental in kicking Buffy out of the house during a battle at one point. During the final confrontation, she proves herself and adept fighter and fights and kills several ubervamps, and survives.
Any special abilities: With the proper ritual, Dawn's blood tears down dimensional barriers; Minor training in witchcraft, vampire hunting, and melee combat; Skilled at translation of foreign languages, notably Sumerian and Turkish.
